| Lee Style T'ai Chi |
| as taught by Grandmaster Chee Soo |
| |
| Q: Will an injury/illness prevent me from practising T'ai Chi? |
| A: Since all the exercises are very gentle and everyone works within their own limits, many injuries do not prevent people practising T'ai Chi. In fact, we have taught classes to students with various disabilities with great success. Nevertheless it is important to inform you teacher of any injury before the session. It is best to stay at home if you have an illness such as flu until you have recovered. If in doubt, contact the teacher. |
| Q: Will T'ai Chi improve my health? |
| A: The exercises can be very beneficial on a physical level with benefits such as: improved flexibility, strengthened muscles and tendons, improved circulation, weight loss, etc. They can also be very beneficial to general health by helping the student to learn how to avoid stress, calm the body and mind, breathe deeply, etc. |
| Q: Do I need special clothing or equipment? |
| A: No, just wear loose clothing and flat shoes (trainers will do). Uniforms including shoes are available. Enquire at the class for more details. |
| Q: What is Taoism and what does it have to do with T'ai Chi? |
| A: Taoism is a philosophy (not a religion). This philosophy is practical rather than abstract and applies to all the exercises we perform in T'ai Chi. For example, in all the exercises we do not use physical strength or force but instead 'go with the flow' of the movement. |
| Q. I have heard that T'ai Chi is a martial art.... Is this true? |
| A. It is true that T'ai Chi can be used for self-defence, but this takes
years of training, and we do not deal with the martial aspects of the art -
classes focus on the relaxing and health giving aspects of T'ai Chi. |
| Q. I don't want to do lots of tiring physical exercise, is T'ai Chi
suitable? |
| A. Absolutely. The movements and exercises that we practice are gentle and
flowing, and do not place any strain on the body. They are suitable for any
age and level of fitness. |
| Q. What is the Lee Style of T'ai Chi, and what are the teacher's
qualifications? |
| A. The Lee style is a traditional and ancient form of T'ai Chi named after
the Lee family - introduced to the UK 50 years ago by Grand Master Chee Soo, it is now practised worldwide and has many followers. The instructor of the Keynsham class is fully qualified as a teacher of Lee Style T'ai Chi by the Taoist Cultural Arts association. |
